EAST LANSING, Mich. — Register soon to attend a Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Training. The Michigan On-Farm Produce Safety team (MIOFPS) will host seven more trainings between Jan. 30 and April 9, 2024. Virtual and in-person options are available.
Whether you *need to understand the requirements of the FSMA Produce Safety Rule, or just want to learn more about on-farm food safety, this course is for you. Multiple registrations from the same farm/organization are encouraged, as this training provides participants with a solid foundation of Good Agricultural Practices (GAPS) and practical ideas for reducing on-farm food safety risks.
Team members from MIOFPS will present the following topics during the one-day training:
- Introduction to Produce Safety
- Worker Health, Hygiene, and Training
- Soil Amendments
- Wildlife, Domestic Animals, & Land Use
- Agricultural Water (Pre-Harvest and Post-Harvest)
- Post-harvest Handling and Sanitation
- How to Develop a Farm Food Safety Plan
The cost to attend a Produce Safety Training is $100. The course fee is payable via credit card during registration. Pre-registration at least two weeks before the course date is required.

*Farms or firms that are legally subject to the FSMA Produce Safety Rule (PSR), are required to have someone from their farm/firm attend this training or an equivalent.
