NORTHEAST IOWA — Twenty-one students, in 6th – 9th grade, and 4-H from Black Hawk, Bremer, Butler, Buchanan and Tama County spent a fun filled day of learning at the Iowa State Capital and Science Center of Iowa on February 28th. Upon arrival at the Capitol building and passing through the security all were taken on a tour and explored the dome. During the morning they met with area Representatives Walt Rogers, Timi Brown-Powers, Bob Kressig, Sandy Salmon, and State Senator Jeff Danielson.
They joined 100 other extension council members. Black Hawk County Extension Council members Don Moore and Bruce Clark joined the event.
The 4-her’s asked many questions including issues on school funding, taxes and how the government works to name a few. From the capital, they continued the journey to the Iowa Hall of Pride to tour and learn all that is good about Iowa.
The youth had a great time and were on their best behavior, making the event a success. The 4-H program staff are planning to offer this opportunity next year too! For more information contact your local County Extension & Outreach office or Diane at 319-234-6811.
