BROOMFIELD, Colo. — The Colorado Department of Agriculture has sponsored 40 young people to be part of the Youth Summit at tomorrow’s Colorado Food Summit, so they can learn how Colorado agriculture and food systems work together. Through CDA’s strategic focus on supporting future generations in ag, the Department sponsored the registration fees and attendance costs for young people from across Colorado to attend the Food Summit.
“Through our partnership with the Food Summit, CDA has sponsored 40 young people to attend the conference, learn about Colorado’s food systems, and imagine how they can become leaders in the bustling, diverse community and business that is agriculture,” said Commissioner of Agriculture Kate Greenberg. “We know that the future of agriculture depends on new people finding a living and a purpose in this hard but fulfilling field. The Colorado Food Summit provides a fantastic opportunity for our young people to learn about Colorado’s agricultural community and the food system it supports.”
During the Colorado Food Summit, which takes place on Thursday, December 8, 2022, the Youth Summit participants will join discussions centered on the future of agriculture and how today’s youth are preparing to be the agricultural leaders of the next generation. This track will feature educators, innovators, practitioners, and those seeking to build a future for themselves and their families in the food and agriculture sectors.
The first presentation in this track, “Building a Brighter Tomorrow: Youth-led Initiatives,” will be livestreamed and is the only presentation of the Food Summit available to view online. The session will run from 9:45 am until 11 am.
Young leaders will also have a chance to attend the Food Summit’s other panel discussions to listen to the insight of ag and food systems experts hailing from a variety of backgrounds. In addition to the next generation track, discussions will follow four other tracks: policy, foundations of the agricultural system, supply chain and customer demand, and nutrition security.
One of the main goals of the Colorado Department of Agriculture is to support future generations in agriculture. This includes farmers, ranchers, and food processors, as well as people trained in the biosciences, nutrition, meat science, veterinary science, agronomy, soil health and conservation, engineering, food safety, technology, product development, marketing, and logistics.
The Colorado Food Summit brings together food and agriculture stakeholders from across the state to help build shared understanding of the complex opportunities and challenges facing our food and agriculture systems. Organized by the Food Systems school at Colorado State University, the event is a partnership between CSU, the Colorado Food Systems Advisory Council, and CDA.
