ONEIDA CO., N.Y. — On Saturday, March 2nd, nine youth in the Oneida County 4-H Horse Program competed at the Regional 4-H Horse Bowl Contest, along with youth from Madison and Onondaga Counties. The 4-H Horse Bonanza Event consists of Horse Bowl, which is a horse knowledge contest done in a quiz bowl format, and Hippology which is a more hands on horse skills and knowledge contest.
Our Junior Team placed 2nd overall in the Horse Bowl division and 1st overall in Hippology. Our Senior Horse Bowl Team placed 2nd overall and Selby Young helped fill out the Onondaga Team which she helped to the 1st place finish! In Hippology our Senior A Team placed 3rd overall and our Senior B Team finished 1st overall!
The following are the Oneida County youth and their individual honors:
Senior Division:
Sophie Norton (Utica)— 1st in Hippology (Qualified for NYS Contest)
Alyssa Buck (Rome)— 1st in Horse Bowl, 7th in Hippology (Qualified for NYS Contest in Horse Bowl and Hippology)
Selby Young (Boonville)— 2nd in Horse Bowl, 4th in Hippology (Qualified for NYS Contest in Horse Bowl and Hippology)
Brianna Yetman (Forestport)— 7th place in Horse Bowl, 9th in Hippology
Julia Waterhouse (Boonville)—4th in Horse Bowl, 6th in Hippology (Qualified for NYS Contest in Horse Bowl and Hippology)
Taylor Dailey (Boonville) – 8th in Horse Bowl, 8th in Hippology
Junior Division:
Robin Litts (Lee Center)— 2nd in Horse Bowl, 1st in Hippology (Qualified for NYS Contest in Horse Bowl and Hippology)
Lanelle Vile (Port Leyden)— 7th in Horse Bowl, 4th in Hippology (Qualified for NYS Contest in Hippology)
Jacob Buck (Rome)— 8th place in Horse Bowl, 6th in Hippology (Qualified for NYS Contest in Hippology)
Great job to all participants! The State Horse Bowl Contest is April 27th at SUNY Morrisville and the State Hippology Contest is August 25th at the Great New York State Fair.
