CROWN POINT, Ind. — The Rockin’ Clovers 4-H Club of Lake County, Ind., visited the Clarendale of Schererville residents on May 7, 2019. The club wanted to reach out to the community. Club members and residents worked together as a team to make tie blankets. The blankets will be donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital through the Lake County 4-H Junior Leaders organization. Residents and 4-H members were excited about being able to help someone feel special.
In April, the club and residents painted plastic Easter eggs. Fortunes were placed in each egg (like a fortune cookie) for the residents. The eggs could be used for an egg hunt later in the week. The children enjoyed speaking with the residents and learning about their history. The club also visited in February and March where 4-H members sewed and stuffed rice bags. The bags will be microwaved and used by residents for aches and pains.
The four H’s in 4-H stand for Head, Heart, Hands, and Health. 4-H is a youth organization that teaches leadership, citizenship, and life skills to young people in grades K-12. It provides opportunities for youth to succeed and to socialize through projects, workshops, camps, and 4-H meetings. It engages youth to reach their fullest potential through educational activities. You can find out more about 4-H by contacting the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service at 219-755-3240.
