SYRACUSE, N.Y. — New York Farm Show and the Oneida County 4H Teen Council are working together to promote farm safety. Fifty percent of total farm fatalities involve working with farm equipment. “Safety on the farm is very important. People in agriculture need to be reminded that safety should always come first. The first step in safety is when hooking up a piece of equipment and using a safety pin and clip,” said Scott Grigor, Show manager. As the 4H moto states, “To Make the Best Better” and this promotional program is to remind farmers about farm safety. The 4H members will be selling hitch pins and safety clips to encourage farmers to use safe practices when hooking up farm equipment. This joint effort is to “promote healthy living” to everyone involved in agriculture at the New York Farm Show.
The Oneida County 4H Teen Council will promote farm safety by selling hitch pins and clips at the ticket entrances’. The ¾ inch pins are $5.00 each or 5 pins for $20.00, 7/8 inch pins are $10.00 each or 3 pins for $20.00 and the 1” pins are $10.00 each or 3 pins for $20.00. The 4H will also be selling safety clips, 25 clips for $10.00. Proceeds from the safety promotion program will benefit the Oneida County 4H Teen Council. “It’s the premier indoor farm show in the northeast, an opportunity to showcase our future, and remind everyone the importance of farm safety,” Grigor said. “The Oneida County 4H Teen Council is striving to become among the best 4H groups in the country, promoting farm safety. I hope that we can help them reach their goal,” Grigor added.
