FORBES ROAD, Pa. — With generous funding from Air Force woman veteran-owned The Skirted Soldier, female veteran farmers residing in Pennsylvania are invited to compete for a $1000 grant for tangible items or equipment to improve their agricultural operations, improve sustainability, and increase profitability. The application closes at 5 pm on Friday, February 3, 2023.
Eligible applicants are honorably discharged women veterans with 50% or more ownership and significant involvement in the daily operation of a for-profit farm or agribusiness which has been operating in Pennsylvania for a minimum of the last 12 months.
Rhonda Smith is the Founder and CEO of The Skirted Soldier, which offers over 40 varieties of military-themed teas hand-blended on her family farm in Blue Knob, Cambria County, Pennsylvania. Ingredients are sourced from member cooperatives and community-supported agriculture group, and 10% of sales are donated to non-profit organizations like the PA Veteran Farming Network to support and benefit women veterans.
