ORANGE CO., N.Y. — Earlier this month, five Putnam youth from the Tall Oaks 4-H Horse Club took part in the Regional 4-H Horse Bowl & Hippology competition in Orange County, NY.
The 4-H Horse Bowl provides an opportunity for youth, ages 9 & up, enrolled in 4-H horse projects to demonstrate their knowledge of equine-related subject matter in a competitive setting. These contests provide an educational experience for both participants and spectators. Youth work as a team to answer questions and compete against other teams in the same class. Some 4-Hāers also complete a written exam based on their knowledge.
This event consist of quiz-style questions about topics such as: Nutrition and Feed, Health and Diseases, History, Evolution and Breeds, Reproduction and Genetics, Anatomy, and Showmanship Basics.
On March 6th, (47) Youth from Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Sullivan and Ulster Counties, participated the Regional 4-H Horse Bowl & Hippology competition, at County Cornell Cooperative Extension of Orange County.
The event, which lasted more than 7 hours, resulted in two Putnam Youth Members of the Tall Oaks 4-H Horse Club, qualifying for the State 4-H Horse Bowl and Hippology contest which will be held at Cornell University on April 15th
