RALEIGH, N.C. — The 2022 North Carolina Soybean Yield Contest results are available. Information provided includes the grower name, County, submitting Agent, region, verified yield, variety, planting date, row spacing, and seeding rate. Winners were announced at the NC Commodity Conference on 1/12.

We had 34 entries (8 irrigated, 26 non-irrigated) averaging 82.9 bu/A!

A recent analysis of 877 North Carolina Soybean Yield Contest entries from 2002-2019 investigated the strongest predictors of high soybean yield. These included using early maturing varieties (MG≤4), planting before Mid-May, and using foliar fungicides to protect yield. Many of the growers that entered the 2022 North Carolina Soybean Yield Contest used these production practices to achieve their high yields, with 85% of entries planted before mid-May and 80% of entries using a MG≤4 variety.
