LAKE ALFRED, Fla. — The annual Florida Citrus Growers’ Institute hosted by the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Extension county citrus agents will be held on April 6. The event will be delivered via a zoom webinar starting at 8:30 a.m. and last until 12 noon.
“We hope to reach a broad audience despite the limits imposed on us because of the Covid pandemic,” said Chris Oswalt, citrus Extension agent for Hillsborough and Polk counties.
The program, traditionally held at South Florida State College in Avon Park, returns after quickly being moved online in 2020 because of Covid-19 limitations on large gatherings. Limitations on large scale events are still in force so planners again opted for a virtual meeting in 2021.
The 2021 program features UF/IFAS researchers speaking about spraying guidelines and biological control research for psyllid management, managing root pests in young trees, the latest on lebbeck mealybug management, individual protective covers impact on tree performance and fruit production and weed management in tree-rows and row middles.
Attendees may earn CEUs for their Restricted Use Pesticide License and for Certified Crop Advisors.
Participants may register for the free program and see a complete agenda at https://citrusagents.ifas.ufl.edu/oj-break/.
