CLARION, Pa. — This year’s 23rd Annual Western PA Spring Grazing Conference will feature Glenn Elzinga and Dr. Allen Williams. The two-day conference will be held Wednesday, March 11th and Thursday, March 12th, 2020 at the Trinity Point Church of God, located just south of Interstate 80, Clarion exit 62.

Glenn Elzinga operates Alderspring Ranch, a large grass-fed organic beef operation, with his family near Salmon, Idaho. He will be speaking on raising and finishing the best grass-fed beef and on the intentional herding on wilderness landscapes to harvest flavor. He will also discuss wellness marketing on the internet and social media and how fully half of grass-fed quality happens post mortem. After ranching for over 20 years, Glenn’s cattle herd has grown from 7 head to over 600 head.

Dr. Allen Williams is a 6th generation family farmer of Starksville, Mississippi. He will lead discussions on the linkage between soil, plant, animal and human health; the three rules of adaptive stewardship, their Impact on soil health and productivity; the integration of livestock and cover crops; and ecosystem and epigenetics considerations. He is a founding partner of Grass Fed Insights, LLC, Understanding Ag, LLC and the Soil Health Academy. He is also a partner in Joyce Farms, Inc. He has consulted with more than 4,000 farmers and ranchers in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, South America, and other countries, on operations ranging from a few acres to over 1 million acres.

Sarah Keough MS, CNS, LDN, is an Eco-Nutritionist and a Co-Leader with Crossroads Apothecary & Teaching Kitchen. She will discuss human nutritional deficiencies/how certain meat, egg, and dairy products can correct them and talk about what is “nutrient density” and the nutrients found in animal proteins and fats.

Informative sessions will be offered not only for beef farmers, but for dairy, equine, and sheep farmers as well. Additional presentations and speakers include: Dairy Grazing, More than Just Pasture (Josh Torrey), Pasture Tips for Horse Owners (Suzette Truax), Grazing Cover Crops 101 and An In-depth Look at Grazing Annuals for Alternative Forages (Jessica Williamson), Understanding Forage Quality and Grass Finishing Beef (Dave Hartman), Dairy Grazing Nutrition to Improve Profits (Karen Hoffman), Sheep Production (Harold Dunn), Biochar – Its Effect on the Health of Soil and Cattle (Gary Gilmore), Lets Talk Dollars and Cents (Russ Wilson).
