BURLINGTON — The annual Vermont Maple Conference, offered at two venues in January, features talks by industry and university maple experts on a range of topics of interest to both experienced and novice sugarmakers.
The Vermont Maple Sugar Makers’ Association (VMSMA) and University of Vermont Extension are co-sponsoring the day-long program on Jan. 18 at the Brattleboro Union Middle School, Brattleboro (109 Sunny Acres) and Jan. 25 at Lamoille Union Middle School, Hyde Park (736 VT Rte. 15).
Registrations will be accepted until the Monday prior to each conference at www.vermontmaple.org/maple-conferences. Registration is $10 for VMSMA members, $40 for non-members and $5 for students.
Lunch is an additional $15 and will be catered by Green Mountain Career and Technical Center’s Culinary Arts Program at the Hyde Park location and by Porch Café and Catering in Brattleboro. Or participants may bring their own lunch.
Walk-ins will be accepted at both sites but cannot be guaranteed lunch. To request a disability-related accommodation, contact Cory Ayotte at (802) 786-9437 or firstname.lastname@example.org by Jan. 2.
Participants will have a choice of four concurrent workshops offered in five tracks: maple production and innovation, maple business management, regulations and maple, sugarbush health and marketing and media. Topics include maple business trends, digital marketing, the state of the maple industry, considerations for a sap-only enterprise, the Food Safety Modernization Act and preventive control rule, syrup quality and retail containers, best management practices and Audubon Vermont’s Bird-Friendly Maple Project, among others.
