PITTSBORO, N.C. — As Hurricane Dorian starts to impact the Carolinas, farmers in coastal regions and further inland should take action now to safeguard your families, farms, and livestock. You probably have already been taking some steps to harvest or protect crops and animals. Don’t forget to document your crops, structures, animals, special event spaces, etc. before and after the storm passes. This documentation is critical to farms’ efforts to recover after the storm.
After the storm, contact and report any damages to your Cooperative Extension office and the Farm Service Agency in your area.
Here are our resources on hurricane readiness and recovery resources.
If you are in the area likely to be affected by the storm, please take action now to stay safe and prepare for recovery.
For those in North Carolina, download the NC Department of Agriculture’s ten-page Hurricane Dorian Timeline & Key Takeaways toolkit.
For those in South Carolina, the South Carolina Emergency Management site is a valuable resource.
We hope that you, your families and friends, your homes, and your farms stay safe.
