LINCOLN — Governor Pete Ricketts released the 18th episode of “The Nebraska Way” featuring Dr. John Kuehn, co-chair of Smart Approaches to Marijuana (SAM)–Nebraska. During this episode, Dr. Kuehn discusses the public health impacts of marijuana use and the dangers of legalizing the drug without clinical drug trials.
Dr. Kuehn is a Professor of Biology and Chair of the Department at Hastings College. His scientific interests include mammalian physiology, reproductive endocrinology, population medicine, and public health. Dr. Kuehn is the co-chair of SAM–Nebraska, an organization that “envisions a society where marijuana policies are aligned with the scientific understanding of marijuana’s harms.”
Dr. Kuehn earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from Hastings College and his doctor of veterinary medicine degree from Kansas State University. At Hastings College, he holds the McIntire Distinguished Professorship in Biological Sciences, received the Vondrak Outstanding Advisor Award for excellence in academic advising, and was chosen as an Artist Lecture Series Invited Faculty Lecturer. He is also a former member of the Nebraska Legislature representing District 38.
