COLUMBIA — The South Carolina Farm Bureau Federation will once again pair some of the finest area chefs with local family farmers for an adventure in good taste. The 10th annual Palmetto Palate will take place Thursday, July 20 from 6-9 p.m. at the historic 701 Whaley St. in Columbia.
The event will feature cooking stations highlighting restaurants around the state that use South Carolina grown commodities on their menus. Attendees will enjoy an evening of fun and fellowship, treat their taste buds to exceptional cuisine, and cast their vote on which chef should take home the Top Chef Award.
“The Palmetto Palate is one of Farm Bureau’s long-anticipated events each year,” said Harry Ott, SCFB President. “Everyone from every corner of the state is invited, and we know you will enjoy this delightful and worthwhile event.”
“This annual event has grown to become a rite of summer, a time to celebrate the local goodness grown by our family farmers and prepared by South Carolina’s highly talented culinary masters,” said Ott.
This year’s participating restaurants are 2 Fat 2 Fly, Blue Marlin, Juniper, Let’s Cook Culinary Studio, The Oak Table, and last year’s winner, Silver Spoon Bakery.
Past chefs have prepared tasty dishes like Manchester Farms BBQ quail, Carolina Heritage BLT pork belly, Adluh biscuits with Titan Farms peach butter and Titan Farms peach cobbler.
The Palmetto Palate also features a silent auction of items from around the state, including baskets of fresh South Carolina grown produce, unique local art and a golf cart. Proceeds from the event will help the Friends of Farm Bureau Political Action Committee support candidates for the South Carolina General Assembly who promote agriculture and the initiatives of the South Carolina Farm Bureau Federation.
Tickets for the annual celebration of agriculture are $50 per person before the event and $60 at the door the day of the event, and include food and beverages. Purchase tickets in advance through www.scfb.org/pp, or at the door by using cash, checks, Visa or Master Card. For more information call 803-936-4215.
