LAMBERTON, Minn. — Come explore a small watershed scale site where the water quantity and quality impact of multiple best management practices are being measured at the Drainage Water Management Demonstration Tour on Thursday, August 16 at the U of MN Southwest Research and Outreach Center near Lamberton, Minn. This free event will begin at 9:00 a.m. with researchers on-site explaining the different drainage water management strategies being tested in the field.
This research project is identifying strategies for achieving improved water quality in the Cottonwood River Watershed. The demonstration will showcase these different strategies, which include edge-of-field bioreactors, in-stream ditches, edge-of-field constructed wetlands, and in-field cover cropping management. The goal is to maintain farm productivity while improving watershed conditions and water quality. Researchers that will presenting at the event include Dr. Jeff Strock, Dr. Andry Ranaivoson, Dr. Axel Garcia y Garcia, Dr. Brent Dalzell and Mr. Bruce Potter from the University of Minnesota and Dr. Gary Feyereisen from the USDA-ARS. This research project is one of two projects selected by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture to receive Clean Water Fund Research contracts in 2017.
