ONONDAGA CO., N.Y. — CBG Farm is a 4th generation family owned and operated dairy farm. Like most dairies they are looking for the best way to position themselves to remain profitable during the current low milk price period. During the past year and a half, they reduced their dairy herd from milking 120 cows to the current 80 cows. This allowed them to operate the farm with only family labor. Additionally, they stopped renting far off tillable land. They are coming back to grazing the dairy herd to further reduce their cost of production. The Griskauskas’s have also diversified their income by selling Pasture Raised Angus beef to the public, and operating a private campsite through “Hipcamp”.
